Introduction to my topics

For this blog post I am going to be talking introducing the possible topics that I am considering to write about for my research paper.  The topic I am most interested in is the casino gaming industry and its affect on the Hospitality industry as a whole.  A casino is a facility that houses and accommodates certain types of gambling activities and other types of entertainment.  Casinos are usually located in around or near hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, and other popular tourist attractions.  Since casinos are located on or near hospitality properties the casino gaming industry has to have some kind of impact and or effect on the Hospitality industry as a whole. The effects of gaming could be positive negative or both.  That is why I want to research this topic and discover more information about how casino gaming is run and learn what kind of effects it has on the businesses it is in correlation with or just located around. If I was not to choose the casino gaming industry and its effects on the hospitality industry as a whole I would write about the relationship between sporting events and the hospitality industry.
Here is a list of a couple exploratory questions I have on my first topic.
1.       Does the casino gaming industry have a more positive or negative effect on the hospitality industry?
2.       Why are casinos more often than not located in correlation with or near hospitality properties such as hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships?
3.       What is the main attraction to the casino gaming industry?

Annotated Bibliography

Kubickova, Marketa, and Heejung Ro. "Are Students "real People?"" Complete Hospitality. EBSCOhost. Web. 02 Feb. 2011. <http://web.ebscohost.com>.
The article focuses on a study that is going to be conducted by Marketa Kubicova and Heejung Ro from the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida.  The study consists of hospitality major students, students of other majors, and non-students. The focus is on two types of service failure which are outcome and process.  As the study develops Kubicova and Ro come up with two hypotheses to test.  In order to test the two hypotheses Kubicova and Ro utilize four different methods. The four methods are research design, measures, sample and data collection, and data analysis plan.  The main reasoning behind this study is to examine the difference from a student groups and a non student groups and to observe possible patterns of service failure.  Conducting this study will help future research and prove or disprove research findings using hospitality students in the past.

Attached to Technology and Paying a Price

After reading the article "Attached to Technology and Paying a Price," I was shocked with how much technology takes over people and runs their life. I definitely take part in my fair share of technology from texting, emails, games, blogging, face book, etc. but never once have I ever felt that I couldn't control my life and reality because of my need/want to be online or watching TV. I was disappointed in the fact that Mr. Campbell let technology take favor over his family and ruin opportunities that will never come again.

Also another thing that I was surprised to read was that multitasking is not beneficial. I am one who definitely multitask more often then not so I was a little disappointed after reading that. I enjoyed this article because it is showing us that as time goes on we are being taken over by multimedia and the Internet without even realizing it. My final thoughts on the article are that even when you think you are doing good or doing something that will benefit you or others be aware of your surroundings because that is not necessarily true especially when it comes to the reality and facts of life.

Leave comments or reply to my post to let me know if you agree or disagree with me.

Thanks,
Mike G.

Hello Everyone.

Mike Gibbons here from IUP's ENGL 202 with Jeremy Justus.

Here is a little information about myself: I am a Junior at IUP and my major is Hospitality Management. I am originally from Allentown, PA, but I was born in Denver, CO. I am a die hard fan of the Denver Broncos and the New York Yankees. I am looking forward to blogging for this class I think it will help us all get to know each other a little better as well as show us what type of writer each one of us is. Now a days everything is run on the Internet so having to blog for class will help teach the students who have never blogged before how to do it and show us what it is all about.
